Monday (Mini #BookReview ) Madness

This week I read:

This was indie?!?! A creepy, slow burning ghost story with a twist that was dark in so many different ways! Imaginative, creative, and not afraid to deal the punches, this was more than I was expecting.
This book was smart! (Like seriously smart.) This escape room tale delivered everything I was hoping for and more with plenty of imagination, a high body count, and a twist that I feel like I should have seen coming but didn’t. My only complaint is that it was branded as the third book in the #murdertrending series, and a prequel at that, even though it really had nothing to do with the other two books and was more than strong enough to be a standalone.

Monday (Mini #BookReview ) Madness

This week I read:

This one is what I would call a very slow burner. It’s long, and for a while it’s dry, and then it slowly picks up the pace until all of a sudden, wham! Scary good times! At times I didn’t know what certain things would have to do with the plot – it tends to meander in a most circuitous way – although all threads are tied together by the end. Some chapters are named, some are not, the paragraphs are long and dense, and I didn’t like any of the characters. But – I must say that when I finally got to the good parts, they were enjoyable.
This was a fast paced book that I quickly devoured. It felt a little amateurish at times, but the premise – a killer loose at an all night rave called Survive The Night where you aren’t allowed to leave – had me hooked. I did enjoy this story, but I have to say that it took a turn that I wish it hadn’t, turning into something I wasn’t expecting, and the ending left me underwhelmed. However, if you’re looking for a fast paced bit of horror, this is it!

Monday (Mini Book Review) Madness

I picked this one up, then almost set it down after a few pages. I didn’t like the writing and could tell right away that at least one of the characters was going to rub me the wrong way, but I had just seen the title on a list with many books that I had enjoyed, so I kept reading. It never shocked me like the cover blurb promises, but it ended up being decent with a nice twist.

Mexican Gothic
This was a #BlameItOnLitsy read because this book is getting so much hype right now. While it was definitely creepy with well developed characters, an eerie setting, and plenty of atmosphere, I found that at times the descriptive writing broke up the suspense with all its details. Good, but not as good as I was hoping.

Very simplistic in its style, and a little bumpy in places, but it’s a CLUE pastiche! CLUE!!! After a childhood (and adulthood) spent defending my undefeated CLUE championship title, I feel like there was no way that I couldn’t have loved this book – and I did! Looking forward to the next book in the series!

I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as The Sundown Motel, but still a solid, suspenseful ghost story. Plenty of atmosphere and mystery made this a hard book to put down!

Monday Book Madness

It was a really good week reading wise. I lucked out and found two awesome books that held my attention!

This week I read:

35065736
Now that it’s over, it seems strange to me how much I loved this book, but I really, really did! I’m usually not a fan of sci-fi or fantasy, and this book had a touch of both, but I didn’t care. I was emotionally invested in the main character and her plight for survival. The suspense and stakes kept me riveted to the page, and the tension kept me reading well into the night. I’ll definitely be looking for more from this author!

Usually books surrounded by a lot of hype are disappointing, but not this one! I kept seeing rave reviews for this on Litsy, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon – and I’m so glad I did! Suspenseful and well written, this mystery interwoven with a ghost story had all the creeps and chills! A fun escape full of tension and atmosphere!
